Abstract
An extensive review of the
literature was conducted to investigate possible relationship among teachers’
intent to remain in the profession, job satisfaction and specific training
needs. A survey research, which
reflects the complexity of job demands in contemporary public schools amidst
dynamic social changes, was also administered to ascertain the perception of
general education teachers and special education teachers with regard to their
preparation and job satisfaction.
Results from both literature and survey research reveal inextricable
interrelationship. Implications on
updating teacher education to meet current needs, enhance satisfaction, and
increase retention to alleviate teacher shortages were
discussed.
