Abstract

All children can learn, although they differ in learning rate, style, and capacity. The term "learning disability" is actually misleading or inaccurate. Children with learning disabilities are not unable to learn. They can learn. However, they may learn very differently in terms of rate, style and capacity from the average learners. Educational approaches and methods that are ordinarily effective with the average or typical learners may not be appropriate for them. Therefore, educators need to dialogue among themselves, and explore approaches that might be compatible with atypical learners who can learn, but are unfortunately though frequently labeled as learners with learning disabilities. The intent of this paper to do just that: stimulating and expanding knowledge among professionals so we can more effectively serve children with "learning disabilities."
